ARCHIVED - VIDEO: Castellon wildfire finally extinguished after 30 days
The Bejís wildfire tore through 20,000 hectares in the Valencian Community

The wildfire which has been blazing through Bejís in Castellón since August 15 has finally been brought under control almost a full month after it ignited, it was announced on Tuesday September 14. The authorities believe that the extraordinary blaze was initially caused by a lightning strike in the municipality of Azuebar.
Finally, the Castellón Provincial Firefighters Consortium was able to declare that the flames were completely extinguished at around 7.20pm last night.
The wave of destruction the wildfire has left in its wake won’t be easily forgotten: in its 30-day rampage, the blaze scorched through more than 20,000 hectares of forestry land in various parts of the province and forced the evacuation of no fewer than 1,500 residents from several municipalities; locals in several more towns were confined to their homes as firefighters battled the shifting flames.

Officials did report that the Bejís wildfire was under control on Saturday August 27, but it has now been entirely quenched, the danger eliminated.
The Emergency Coordination Center of the Generalitat has taken the opportunity to highlight the "hard work" carried out by the forest firefighting units, particularly during the early days of the blaze.
