ARCHIVED - Valencia Covid update October 28: the community increases to medium risk
The first cases of the Delta Plus variant have been registered in the Valencian Community
As all of Spain creeps ever closer to the medium risk level, the Community of Valencia has registered its first cases of the Delta Plus variant that has been sweeping across the UK in recent weeks. The new coronavirus strain was detected in the General Hospital of Elche and recent reports have concluded that the variant is between 10% and 15% more transmittable than the original Delta virus.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day accumulated rate in the Valencian Community, which yesterday had already jumped up from low risk, has again increased to 54.40 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and remains above the 49.62 national average.

12 to 19: 30.39
20 to 29: 46.50
30 to 39: 56.42
40 to 49: 60.01
50 to 59: 56.49
60 to 69: 56.83
70 to 79: 52.07
80 plus: 56.41
Infections
Regional health authorities have reported 270 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday October 28, bringing the total number of infections in the Community since the beginning of the pandemic to 514,733.
By province, 78 infections were registered in Castellón, 98 in Alicante and 94 in Valencia.
There is currently one unassigned case.
Hospitalisation and fatalities
Three additional deaths have been reported in the last seven days, two 88-year-olds and one 76-year-old. This figure brings the overall death toll to 7,844.
Castellón has registered 844 fatalities overall, followed by 3,010 in Alicante and 3,979 in Valencia.
There are currently 188 people admitted to hospitals with Covid, 44 of them in the ICU.
In all, 205 people have fully recovered from Covid and have been discharged from the Community’s hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 515,623.
According to the data, there are currently 2,712 active cases.
Outbreaks
Since the last update there have been no outbreaks of ten or more cases.
