Young British woman seriously injured in Benidorm bottle attack
Holiday turns traumatic for North Yorkshire family after late-night assault leaves 19-year-old in hospital

It began with a spilled drink inside a bar near Benidorm’s main entertainment area. Sam Kent apologised after the accident, but this sparked a brief scuffle, and security asked the pair to leave. On their way back, several women approached Sam Kent, claiming the earlier dispute involved one woman’s brother.
After a short argument, Samantha says she was attacked from behind by a man the women had summoned. “He hit me in the head or the neck, I don’t remember exactly,” Samantha recounted. “Then he looked at me, came back to me, and was smiling as he stabbed me with the bottle.”
Samantha fell to the ground, bleeding heavily. Tourists nearby rushed to help, using their own clothes to stem the blood loss until police and paramedics arrived. At Marina Baixa Hospital she received stitches and staples for deep cuts to her neck and arm.
Now back in the UK, doctors have advised Samantha that she will not be able to drive or return to work for at least two months as she continues her recovery from both physical wounds and the emotional aftershocks. She said, “I thought I was going to die. I can’t sleep, I have nightmares, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Benidorm has changed a lot; it’s not what it used to be.”
Samantha says her family has been coming to Benidorm for more than twenty years and never experienced anything like this. The attack has left her with permanent scars and a severe psychological impact. “If someone can smile while stabbing a woman with a bottle, what else would they be capable of?” she reflected.
Local police are investigating. For many long-term Benidorm regulars, this incident marks a worrying turn in what used to be a reliable holiday destination.
