ARCHIVED - Valencia region on high alert for forest fires
The Generalitat de Valencia has declared a 'pre-emergency' level warning due to the risk of forest fires over the next few days
Hot on the heels of a destructive wildfire that forced 120 people out of their homes and razed 18 hectares of countryside at the weekend, the Generalitat de Valencia has upgraded the warning level of forest fires to 'high' and placed the Valencia Region on 'pre-emergency' alert.
⚠️El nivell de preemergència per risc d'incendis forestal per a hui és:

The warning was issued on Monday morning, May 1, and is likely to remain in place for the next few days as the province continues to see temperatures in excess of 30ºC and unseasonably dry conditions.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), a very warm and dry air mass, of African origin, together with the conditions of atmospheric stability and sustained, strong sunshine, have led to a progressive and marked rise in temperatures, with values typical of summer and exceptionally high for this time of year.
In addition to the high risk alert, Emergencias 112 has reminded that it is prohibited to light fires.
The region has seen rain over the last couple of days, but not on any marked level, and only a chance of showers on the horizon.
