ARCHIVED - Heatwave reprieve with chance of showers: Alicante weather May 1-4
More comfortable temperatures are forecast in Alicante this week, but the mercury could still peak at 32ºC in the Vega Baja region on Thursday
Alicante bid adios to the driest April in decades with a welcome downpour and electrical storms in parts of the province over the weekend, and will head into May with a chance of more to come.
¡Guau!

It's been quite a record-setting month, also closing with the highest temperature recorded in Alicante city in 167 years.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) observatory at Ciudad Jardín registered 33.8ºC on Saturday, the hottest April in the city since 1856. Meanwhile, municipalities in the Vega Baja region saw 'warm' electrical storms with rainfall on Saturday afternoon.
In Orihuela, 22 litres per square metre fell, 10 in Guardamar and 8.2 in Rojales. According to Professor of Geography Jorge Olcina from the Climatology Laboratory of the University of Alicante, the weekend's storms were "the most notable episode of rain since March 1".
There is a chance of scattered showers with thunderstorms on Monday May 1, although for the most part it will be warm with partly cloudy or clear skies. It may feel slightly cooler at night with daytime temperatures of between 24 and 28ºC accompanied by a light variable wind with sea breezes.
Alcoy: 12ºC to 26ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 24ºC
Denia: 14ºC to 25ºC
Elche: 14ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 15ºC to 28ºC
On Tuesday May 2 we can expect low cloud or clear skies, with intervals of high clouds first thing in the morning and late afternoon. Temperatures will remain unchanged or drop very slightly. A light variable wind with sea breezes is forecast in the afternoon.
Alcoy: 13ºC to 26ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 24ºC
Denia: 14ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 14ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 14ºC to 27ºC
Wednesday May 3 will also get off to a partly cloudy or clear start, although coastal areas will see morning mist. Thermometers are unlikely to budge notably either way and it will feel a little blustery as an easterly wind picks up gust, particularly in central coastal areas.
Alcoy: 10ºC to 24ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 24ºC
Denia: 13ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 13ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 14ºC to 26ºC
Moving into Thursday April 4 and morning cloud will linger into mid-afternoon further inland, while the mercury will climb as we head towards the weekend, potentially reaching 32ºC in the Vega Baja region. Inland, a light westerly wind will prevail, with moderate intervals in the interior; on the coast, a light variable wind will tend towards easterly, with moderate intervals in the afternoon.
Alcoy: 12ºC to 28ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 14ºC to 26ºC
Elche: 13ºC to 28ºC
