ARCHIVED - Valencia plans to extend the use of the Covid passport
The regional president wants the passport to be required in more establishments throughout the Valencian Community
The president of the Valencian Community, Ximo Puig, announced at a meeting on Wednesday December 15 that the experts are currently studying the possibility of expanding the use of the Covid passport to different types of establishments in light of the rising numbers of coronavirus cases in the region.
During his speech, Mr Puig reminded those assembled that the regional government has three immediate objectives: protecting public health, creating employment and the expansion of economic resources for the Valencian Community.
Regarding health protection, the president insisted that we must "live with the pandemic" by getting immunised and using "a mask, social distancing, ventilation and common sense", and has called for responsibility during the celebration of the upcoming Christmas holidays.
In the Valencian Community, 93.3% of the target population has now been double jabbed, a feat which Mr Puig has described as “the greatest collective achievement in many decades”. However, he emphasised that that battle is far from over, and has pushed for the vaccination of minors and a booster dose “as soon as possible” for people over the age of 40.
The Covid passport is currently required to access leisure and entertainment venues with a capacity of more than 50 in the Valencian Community.
