ARCHIVED - Torrevieja hit by second mini earthquake in a fortnight
The quake was felt in Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and San Miguel de Salinas
The Vega Baja region of Alicante province is an area of high seismic activity and earthquakes are not unusual, but they are normally considered minor and it's not so common for tremors to be felt in neighbouring towns.
But this was the case on Monday July 25 when a small earthquake measuring 1.6 on the Richter scale was recorded by the National Geographic Institute in the south of Torrevieja at 2.20pm.
The epicentre was just in front of Cabo Roig, and tremors were felt by residents in neighbouring towns.
According to Proyecto Mastral, "the earthquake occurred at a depth of about six kilometres and has been felt by the population, as far as we know, in Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and San Miguel de Salinas". There have been no reports of personal or material damage.
