ARCHIVED - Pregnant woman and children among 19 migrants rescued off the coast of Torrevieja
Two migrant boats reached the southern coast of Alicante province over the weekend
A pregnant woman and three children, one of them just a baby, were among 19 migrants rescued off the coast of Torrevieja on Sunday night, on one of two dinghies that reached southern shores in Alicante province over the weekend.
Another woman on board the small boat, known as a ‘patera’ in Spain, was breastfeeding the youngest child when the vessel was intercepted by Red Cross Maritime Rescue near Cape Cervera.
There were also 14 men on board, all of whom were transferred safely to Alicante port.
Just 10 hours earlier, a dinghy with 17 men of North African origin was located between the waters of Alicante and Cartagena.
