ARCHIVED - Three Brits held in Rojales for trying to post marijuana to Holland and Ireland
Police discovered six kilos of vacuum-packed buds inside parcels during the investigation in the Vega Baja, Alicante province

Three Brits – two men and a woman – have been arrested and charged in Rojales on suspicion of sending marijuana to Holland and Ireland via parcel post and other drug offences.
The suspects, aged 26, 30 and 32, were detained as part of operation 'Mon-21' on March 4, when, following surveillance, the Guardia Civil executed search warrants at two houses they believed were being used to grow cannabis.
The investigation began at the beginning of February, when police in nearby Almoradí became aware of a package in the town's transport office destined for Holland, "which gave off a strong smell of marijuana". Officers identified the sender, a young male pretending to be a parcel delivery man who attempted to make a second shipment to Ireland. Both packages contained a total of six kilos of vacuum-packed marijuana buds.
During the subsequent searches, the woman and one of the men were discovered "guarding crops" at a house and arrested after police found 500 marijuana plants, 200 branches which were drying out, sophisticated ventilation systems, fertilisers and other items used for cultivation.
In a statement, the police said the raid was "made difficult by the fact there were two dogs considered to be dangerous breeds which belong to the detainees in a nervous state inside the house".
The Guardia Civil arranged for people close to the owners to take charge of the dogs, and later the same day, the third detainee, the 'would-be delivery man' was also arrested in Rojales.
All three Brits have appeared before Orihuela Court and released charged with drug trafficking. They are banned from leaving the country.
