ARCHIVED - Thousands of British and other expats flock to Orihuela beach on Christmas Day
For more than a decade, a mammoth Christmas party has been held on La Zenia beach, Orihuela Costa
Thousands of British and other European residents descended on Orihuela Costa's La Zenia beach on Christmas Day for a gigantic festive party with music.
The annual celebration was first held more than a decade ago, organised by local expat orchestra 'Just Brass', and has grown year after year to become a macro-celebration.
Orihuela Costa is home to large communities of British, German, Scandinavian, and of course, Spanish residents, many of whom donned festive fancy dress and arrived on the coastline armed with picnics and barbecues.
People also travelled from further afield to enjoy the festivities, clear blue skies and glorious sunshine.
In fact, the party was so well attended, the crowds spilled over beyond Cala Bosque onto the protected dunes, without any municipal or coastal control, sparking some criticism.
But the event went ahead without hitch, and catering establishments along the promenade were filled to capacity.
