Street cocktails warning for Brits after police bust dodgy vendor in Mallorca
Police say drinks sold by street vendors could pose a serious risk to holidaymakers

The warning comes after a routine patrol by Palma Police on Saturday July 13 found an unlicensed seller mixing and serving cocktails from the ground of a car park in Platja de Palma, one of the island’s busiest tourist spots.
Photos released by the local police show watermelon slices and mint being chopped on a plastic bag laid directly on the dirty pavement, surrounded by grime, splashes of alcohol and general rubbish. The man, who had no health permits or licence to sell, was offering mojitos and sangria poured from five-litre bottles into plastic cups, targeting unsuspecting beachgoers.

Authorities have since submitted a full report to the Food Safety and Nutrition Service of Spain’s Ministry of Health, warning that the unsanitary set-up posed a serious health risk.
Locals and visitors alike are being strongly advised not to buy drinks from unregulated sellers, especially during the high season heat when the risk of contamination is higher.
“This kind of activity is dangerous and illegal,” a police spokesperson said. “We ask beachgoers to report any similar incidents to help keep the public safe.”
The crackdown forms part of a wider campaign across the island aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and reducing street-level alcohol sales. As part of the effort, extra patrols have been deployed across beaches and busy urban areas, and additional controls are being put in place for bars and restaurants to help ease pressure during the summer months.
So if you’re tempted by a cheap cocktail on the beach this holiday, authorities are clear - think twice. It might not be worth the risk.
