ARCHIVED - Stash of hashish found on Tabarca Island beach in Alicante province
A resident discovered the drugs on Tabarca Island off the coast of Alicante municipality at the weekend.
Alicante police have seized around 35 kilos of hashish found on the island of Tabarca on Sunday night, June 20.
A local resident was walking near the lighthouse on the island when they spotted what turned out to be 70 packages of the drug on the beach, next to a rocky area, at around 9 pm.
They contacted Alicante Local Police and the packages, each containing five tablets of hashish weighing 500 grams each, were recovered and handed over to the Guardia Civil in Santa Pola.
Police are investigating, though it's not yet known who the drugs belong to and no arrests have been made.
Tabarca Island is a popular excursion destination on the Costa Blanca during the summer months, with as many as 10,000 people visiting the island on some days.
