ARCHIVED - Seismic activity continues with two minor earthquakes registered in Alicante
Ibi and Torremanzanas, in the Alicante province, both reported minor seismic tremors

The province of Alicante registered two minor earthquakes late on Monday night (August 30) and in the early hours of Tuesday morning (August 31), after four higher magnitude seismic tremors were recorded off the Alicante coast on Monday.
These two smaller earthquakes took place inland, in the municipalities of Ibi and Torremanzanas. The first was registered in Ibi at 11.26pm on Monday with a magnitude of 1.5 on the Richter scale and a 11,000-metre-deep epicentre while the second took place in Torremanzanas just after midnight, slightly closer to the surface (10,000 metres) with a magnitude of 1.6.
This recent tremor is the second in Ibi this year, with the first being registered on July 9, and the two earthquakes in Ibi and Torremanzana are the 49th and 50th in Alicante so far in 2021.

The increase in earthquakes in recent months, mostly in Andalucía and in Alicante where there have been 15 earthquakes in August alone, is part of the Alboran series of earthquakes which recently reported 72 earthquakes in a 24 hour period and over 2,000 seismic tremors since April 17.
Although the Alboran series earthquakes are mainly located just off the coast of Melilla, and are normally felt in some parts of Andalucía, recently, the tremors seem to be spreading up the Spanish coast, affecting the Region of Murcia and the Valencia region.
