ARCHIVED - Ryanair launches largest ever Alicante summer flight schedule with 80 routes
The low-cost airline invests 200 million to expand routes from Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández international airport from April 1
Budget carrier Ryanair has announced "the company's biggest summer schedule in its history in Alicante" this summer with the addition of 10 new destinations bringing the total number of routes to 80.
The Irish low-cost airline, which has been operating to and from Alicante-Elche airport for 16 years, is investing 200 million euros to expand routes on the Costa Blanca, a move that will create 390 direct jobs and up to 5,100 indirect jobs.
Company spokesperson for Spain and Portugal, Elena Cabrera, said the introduction of 10 new summer destinations from April 1 until September 30 will mean increasing the number of aircraft based at the Alicante airport from 11 to 13.
Four of the aircraft based in Alicante during the summer will be new Boeing 'Gamechangers', which are more environmentally sustainable by emitting 16% less carbon dioxide (CO2), carrying 4% more passengers and having a 20% lower noise impact, said Cabrera.
The new Ryanair destinations from Alicante are: Belfast (UK), Fez (Morocco), Frankfurt Hahn and Paderborn (Germany), Lodz and Warsaw (Poland), Klagenfurt (Austria), Rome Fiumicino and Turin (Italy) and Santander (spain).
According to Cabrera, this "places Alicante airport located in El Altet in the company's top five in Spain, along with Madrid, Barcelona, Palma and Malaga".
The 80 routes represent "the largest Ryanair schedule ever in Alicante", and will allow the carrier to offer 6.3 million seats per year (4.7 million of them in the summer campaign).
In addition to the new routes, the frequencies of 30 of the existing destinations will be increased by an average of 19% this summer, including Bordeaux, London Stansted, Milan Bergamo, Porto and Bologna.
Ryanair has also launched a special seat offer with fares from just 29.99 euros for travel between April 2023 and October 2023, which must be booked by midnight on 17 February at www.ryanair.com.
