ARCHIVED - Record number of daily Covid infections in Valencia region
1,692 cases reported in the region's three provinces including Alicante, the highest since February 19.
New infections continue to rise on a daily basis in the Valencia region with 1,692 cases confirmed on Saturday - the highest recorded since February 19 and up 421 on the previous day when 1,271 positives were confirmed.
For three consecutive days, the region has recorded more than 1,000 new diagnosis, with the Ministry of Health announcing 1,410 on Thursday, July 1, which means that (as of Saturday), there have been a total of 406,887 positives since the start of the pandemic.
Ahead of the weekend, the rebound had seen the cumulative rate leap to 141.06 cases per 100,000 people, placing Valencia as the region with the fifth-highest cumulative incidence - a far cry from just over a month ago when the figure remained below 30 cases.
By province, of the 1,692 recorded on Saturday, there were: 233 in Alicante (150,357 in total); 1,332 to Valencia, (214,582 in total); and 127 in Castellon (41,945 in total).
Across Spain the rate of Covid is surging, particularly amongst the younger population.
