ARCHIVED - Police find staff including chef with Covid working at Alicante restaurant
The city centre restaurant on the Costa Blanca was closed down and the boss faces a hefty fine.
A restaurant in the centre of Alicante was temporarily shut down after police found six members of staff - including the chef - still working despite having tested positive for Covid.
Officers first visited the establishment at around 8pm on Friday, July 16, where they discovered the chef preparing meals for 21 customers even though he had been diagnosed with the virus.
Along with almost two dozen customers, there were 13 other members of staff on shift, and they were all ordered to leave while the restaurant was closed until Sunday.
The police returned on Saturday, and carried out a full inspection of the eaterie, notifying the owner that there were in fact six employees infected with Covid, who along with the boss, face "very serious sanctions" for failing to comply with the health measures adopted by the Valencian government to curb the spread of the virus.
Elsewhere in the city, six other establishments were denounced over the weekend for having too many tables and allowing alcohol to be consumed on terraces outside the established opening hours, which state that bars and restaurants must not serve customers after midnight and close at 12.30am.
Alicante police also received a total of 73 complaints about botellon drinking sessions in Calles Oviedo, Avenida de Niza, Costablanca, Cala Cantalar, La Ereta, Casco Antiguo and Cabo de las Huertas, and broke up 20 illegal parties at homes across the city.
