ARCHIVED - Pickpockets slapped with restraining order from Alicante Airport for robbing tourists
The two thieves can’t come within 500 metres of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport
A court in Elche has imposed a restraining order on two men aged 74 and 59 who swiped purses and bags from dozens of tourists over the course of several months at Alicante airport. The ban prohibits the pair from going within 500 metres of the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport.
When they were eventually arrested, the National Police discovered that the thieves had carried out a string of similar robberies all across Spain. In fact, the majority of the more than 30 offences racked up by one of the suspects were for pickpocketing.

Due to their age, the scammers drew little attention as they posed as tourists and used a technique “so refined” to lift wallets and purses that the targeted holidaymakers, generally foreigners, didn’t realised they had been fleeced until much later.
Careful screening of the airport security cameras finally picked up the two thieves in action and the restraining order was decided on given the high probability that the pair will reoffend.
