ARCHIVED - People exempt from mask wearing must have medical proof: Valencia Covid update November 12
The Valencia region's Ministry of Health has outlined mask wearing exceptions in a new official document
People with any type of illness or respiratory difficulty that means they cannot wear a facemask must now be able to produce a medical certificate signed by a doctor confirming they "have a disease or illness which may be aggravated by its use", according to a new resolution agreed by Valencia region's Ministry of Health.
Published in the regional government's Official Gazette on Thursday November 11, the modified document outlines the exceptions to mask wearing in public places.
It states that the obligation to wear a mask will not apply to people with any type of respiratory illness or difficulty that could be exacerbated by wearing a facemask.
But it adds that in these cases "a medical report, in an official document, issued by the doctor responsible for the care of the corresponding pathology, must be submitted in which it is objectively and rigorously stated that the person has an illness or respiratory difficulty incompatible with the use of a mask".
In the case of disabled and/or dependent people, the medical report or certificate must also specify that "due to their disability or dependence, they do not have the capacity to place or remove the mask, or they present behavioural alterations that make its use unviable".
The use of mask will no longer be required for speakers in enclosed public places during their speech, but social distancing must be maintained.
Likewise, masks will no longer be obligatory in "enclosed spaces for public use that form part of the place of residence of the groups that meet there", such as institutions for the care of the elderly or shared accommodation for essential workers.
"This is provided that these groups and the workers who perform their duties there have vaccination coverage against SARS-CoV-2 of more than 80% with a complete schedule, accredited by the competent health authority," adds the document, adding that this last exception will not apply to external visitors, nor workers in residential centres for the elderly or people with functional diversity.
