Alicante hospital evacuated as precautionary measure after fire on ward.
A patient suffered burns to a third of their body after a mattress caught fire on a ward at San Juan Hospital in Alicante.
One floor of the hospital was evacuated as a precautionary measure on Sunday, July 25, following the blaze which left the patient with "severe burns". The victim has been transferred to the General Hospital of Alicante for specialist burns treatment, where they remain in "emergency care".
Patients were progressively returned to their beds over the course of the day, once it was established there was no further risk of smoke inhalation, and the cause of the fire is now being investigated.
