Orihuela seeks funding for restoration of 230-year-old church
Orihuela Town Hall has applied for a grant to carry out extensive repairs at San José de La Murada Church
Built back in 1788, San José de La Murada Church in Orihuela has undergone various renovations over the years but according to the Town Hall, time has taken its toll, and the building is once again in need of restoration work.
So, in order to "reverse the adverse effects of use and age", the council has applied for a grant from Alicante Provincial Council to carry out extensive repairs.
The project will cost just shy of 80,000 euros, and the local authority is hoping for a 50% subsidy from the provincial council's coffers for the rehabilitation of municipal monuments and churches.
The restoration work will include tackling damp in the ceiling and walls, repairing cracks and fissures, replacing carpentry, repairing the roof, improving the rainwater drainage system, renovating the paving and painting both the exterior and interior of the church.
