ARCHIVED - One million foreign tourists visited the Costa Blanca in July - almost twice as many as 2021
Nearly a quarter of the visitors to the Valencia Region were British, and spent an average of 122 euros a day
The Valencia Region received 1.1 million visitors in July, an annual increase of 85.4%, and they spent more too, on average 122 euros a day which represents a 103% increase on last year, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
This places the autonomous region as the third main destination in terms of tourist traffic in Spain as a whole.
The United Kingdom was the main country of origin (with 22.4% of the total), followed by France (22.1%), and the international tourists spent a lot more than in 2021 - a whopping 1.4 billion euros.
This accounts for 12.3% of the total tourist spending in Spain in July, ranking the region fifth overall, according to INE figures, behind the Balearic Islands (23.6% of total expenditure), Catalonia (21.8%) the Canary Islands (13.6%) and Andalusia (12.5%).
In the first seven months of 2022, international tourists spent a total of 5.5 billion euros in the Valencia Region, which represents 11.5% of the total for Spain and a 290.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
Curiously, the overseas visitors spent approximately 10.7 days on the Costa Blanca, around 24-hours less than in July 2021 (down 10.8%) and the average overall expenditure per tourist was 1,302 euros.
