ARCHIVED - New Ryanair low-cost routes from Alicante-Elche Airport this summer
The budget carrier is launching 10 new Alicante connections to destinations including the UK, Italy and Germany
Irish budget airline Ryanair has announced a barrage of new low-cost connections as part of its biggest ever summer flight schedule at Alicante-Elche airport with a total of 80 routes between April and October.
While the company is investing 200 million euros expanding its offering to and from the Costa Blanca airport, the news is sure to be welcomed by travellers hoping to cut costs and save a few euros this summer.
As well as lifting off with 10 new connections to different destinations such as the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany, the airline will also strengthen routes with other countries it has been flying to for years.
The 10 new lost-cost routes from Alicante-Elche airport are:
- Belfast (United Kingdom)
- Fez (Morocco)
- Frankfurt Hahn (Germany)
- Paderborn (Germany)
- Lodz (Poland)
- Warsaw (Poland)
- Klagenfurt (Austria)
- Santander
- Turin (Italy)
- Rome (Italy)
The Alicante-Warsaw link will have a weekly frequency of four flights. Meanwhile, the routes from Alicante to Belfast, Fez and Rome will have a frequency of three flights a week. The other new destinations (Frankfurt, Klagenfurt, Lodz, Paderborn, Santander and Turin) will have two flights per week from Alicante.
Ryanair's flight schedule represents an important reinforcement of the Alicante airport's connections with Germany and Italy, and there are plans to increase the frequency of flights to destinations such as London, Oporto, Milan, Bologna and Bordeaux.
A company spokesperson explained, "Two new aircraft have been added to the fleet. With these new acquisitions, Ryanair now has a total of 13 aircraft based at Alicante-Elche airport."
And the company expects that these reinforced connections will generate more than 60 jobs for pilots and cabin crew.
"Importantly, these new routes offer Alicante's citizens and visitors even more options for their summer holidays," said Elena Cabrera, the company's country manager for Spain and Portugal, adding that 4.7 million passengers are expected to pass through Alicante airport between April and October.
The Costa Blanca's biggest and busiest airport has once again reached the dizzy heights of being named the 'Best in Europe' by the Airports Council International (ACI).
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport has been awarded the distinction for its "efforts to offer the best travel experience" in the 15 to 25 million passengers category based on user surveys. This is the third time the aerodrome has been successful in this category, having bagged the title in 2018 and 2019.
