New petrol station and supermarket planned in Orihuela Costa
The abandoned plot in Dehesa de Campoamor will also sport a laundrette and car wash
Murcian company Petrogo has submitted plans to develop a new low-cost filling station complete with supermarket, car wash and laundry service on an abandoned plot in the popular Orihuela Costa district of Campoamor. The facilities will be built on the site of the old headquarters of ‘Chiringuitos del Sol’, the former managers of the area’s beach bars.
The City Council has submitted the request for a licence and the project is now in the planning application phase. Once it gets the formal go-ahead, the 5,000-square-metre site, which currently only houses a 1980s-style building covered in graffiti, will be transformed into a 365-square-metre supermarket, a large forecourt with four fuel pumps, a 150-metre-square laundry and covered car wash.
There will also be parking for 37 vehicles, including at least four adapted spaces for disabled people.
Located along the busy N-332, just a stone’s throw away from San Pedro del Pinatar and the bustling neighbourhoods of Cabo Roig and La Zenia, Dehesa de Campoamor is one of the oldest urbanisations on the Orihuela Costa and is home to a multitude of nationalities.
At the moment, there is a Cepsa garage on Calle Salvador Rueda next to the Las Villas restaurant, but this is much smaller than the new complex planned for the site at Miguel de Cervantes Avenue 1.
Petrogo is headquartered in the Murcian district of Monteagudo, where it operates two gas stations. It currently runs three other service stations spread across other parts of the Region of Murcia such as El Raal, Beniel and Llano de Brujas.
This expansion into Alicante province should go a long way to alleviating pressure along the dual carriageway during the summer months in particular, but the additional facilities will also be welcomed by this thriving and diverse community.
