ARCHIVED - New cases continue on upward trajectory: Valencia Covid update January 12
The 14-day cumulative incidence in the region, including Alicante province, has hiked to 2,517 cases per 100,000 people
Daily Covid cases continue on an upward trajectory in the Valencia region with the Ministry of Health reporting 16,611 cases in the last 24 hours – 247 more than were reported on Tuesday January 11.
But whilst new infections show no sign of slowing down, with daily increases, the death rate has been less consistent this week, with 22 fatalities reported on Monday, 25 on Tuesday and 17 today.
What has followed the recent trend is the number of people hospitalised on a daily basis, with an additional 43 Covid patients admitted in the last 24 hours.
However, it's not just in hospitals where the pressure is being felt due to the surge in infections. Primary Care health centres, in Alicante province in particular, are struggling to deal with a backlog of appointments which is causing return to work delays for recovered patients.
Coronavirus cases
The Regional Ministry of Health has reported 16,611 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, just over 250 more than the 16.364 infections reported on Tuesday January 11, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 775,308.
By province: 3,102 have been recorded in Castellón (89,681 in total); 6,335 in Alicante (281,043), and 7,174 in Valencia (404,582).
There are two unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 135,574 active cases, which represents 17.23% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,427 people admitted to hospital with Covid (up from 1,384 on Tuesday), 200 of them in ICU (four less): 203 in the province of Castellón, 27 in ICU; 507 in the province of Alicante, 67 of them in ICU; and 717 in the province of Valencia, 106 in ICU.
In the last 24 hours, 11,732 patients have overcome the virus, meaning 642,914 people have recovered from the disease since the start of the pandemic.
By provinces, the discharges are distributed as follows: 71,723 in Castellón, 230,271 in Alicante and 340,864 in Valencia. The total number of unassigned registrations remains at 56.
Fatalities
A further 17 Covid-related deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, although they occurred between December 31 and January 11 (eight less than on Tuesday), bringing the overall death toll to 8,261: 935 in the province of Castellón, 3,174 in Alicante and 4,152 in Valencia.
The deceased are 10 women, aged between 47 and 91, and seven men between the ages of 52 and 90-years-old.
Vaccination data
There has been no update with regards to vaccinations, but as of Friday January 7, a total of 9,784,304 coronavirus vaccines had been administered.
