Murcia Marathon earns World Athletics Label status
Record 11,000 runners from 81 countries race this Sunday
For the first time, Murcia's TotalEnergies Murcia Costa Cálida Marathon joins Spain's four events with official World Athletics Label recognition (IAAF). This Sunday brings over 11,000 participants across full, half and 10km races, including 2,200 runners from 81 countries. Around 15,000 tourists will fill the city, making it both a sporting highlight and promotional showcase. The flat course and good weather have lured 50 elite athletes chasing personal bests, mixing with thousands of amateurs finishing in Plaza del Cardenal Belluga by the Cathedral. "It's already part of the sporting identity of the city of Murcia, which is consolidating its position among the major marathons with growth in both quality and quantity," said Sports Councillor Miguel Ángel Noguera. The Ayuntamiento and Regional Government are backing its growth.
The Runner's Fair runs Friday and Saturday, 10am to 8pm, at the Víctor Villegas Auditorium, featuring top brands alongside a new Gastronomic Fair led by chef Juan Antonio Salmerón. Kids get their moment Saturday noon with the Mini Marathon, supported by 1,000 free bibs and school visits.
Director General of Sports Fran Sánchez called it “a strategic event with an impressive international reach.” "Come out and cheer on all the participants," he added. From local running enthusiasts to global draw, Murcia Challenge Club has built something special.
