MSC diverts cruise from Valencia to Port of Alicante on Sunday
Alicante is to receive another vessel later this week that was not previously scheduled to stop there
The port of Alicante will receive two more cruise ships than was originally planned in the coming days due to Valencia cruise stops being diverted.
The Alicante Costa Blanca Tourism and Cruises Association have confirmed that a total of five ships will call in over the next few days.
The first is a stopover and is based on the shipping company's criteria and is not the fault of the storm.
The one that arrived on Sunday, however, is due to events that occurred last Tuesday.
This is a decision by MSC to divert the Explora II cruise ship, which has a capacity for 900 passengers.
The organisation regrets the circumstances, and understands that this is a one-off event, while Valencia recovers from the tragedy of the past week.
The changes also represent a historic record for the town, with the arrival of 11,400 visitors on five ships.
The Marella Voyager cruise ship is scheduled to arrive at the cruise terminal in the Port of Alicante on Friday at 9am and depart at 6pm.
