ARCHIVED - Motorist arrested in Torrevieja with 23 kilos of marijuana in his car
The German motorist was stopped during a routine police control on the Costa Blanca.
Police in Torrevieja in the Vega Baja, Alicante province, arrested a German motorist after 23 kilos of marijuana was found stashed in bin bags in his car.
In mid-May, several police patrols were carrying out routine vehicle identification controls when they spotted a car with German license plates, and became suspicious.
The 30-year-old driver, who was travelling alone, appeared "extremely nervous" and officers decided to search the vehicle, where they discovered plastic bin bags full of marijuana buds on the rear passenger seat and in the boot, along with €3,000.
The motorist is believed to have travelled to Spain from Germany with the alleged intention of supplying drugs to northern Europe, according to a police statement on Friday, June 18.
He was charged with drug trafficking and appeared at Torrevieja Investigating Court on May 22 where he was remanded into custody without bail.
