Most wanted Finnish fugitive arrested in Alicante

After five years on the run, one of Finland’s most wanted criminals has been arrested in the Alicante seaside city of Torrevieja. The 44-year-old man fled Finland in 2018 and was the subject of a European arrest warrant.

The Organised Crime unit of the Alicante Provincial Police Station tracked the fugitive, who is accused of fraud in his home country, to the coastal resort this week following an official investigation to discover his whereabouts.

The detainee is currently awaiting his appearance before the National Court and faces seven years behind bars if convicted in Finland.

Earlier this month, a 30-year-old Romanian woman and one of the most wanted criminals in Spain was nabbed in Alicante. The notorious thief has been accused of a string of robberies up and down the country using the so-called ‘hug mug’ technique, whereby criminals embrace and kiss their unsuspecting victims while pinching their jewellery.
