ARCHIVED - Migrant boat reaches coast of Albir
The patera was intercepted close to the landmark lighthouse in the Marina Baixa area of Alicante province
Attempts to reach Alicante coast by African migrants continue as Maritime Rescue Service intercept a boat carrying eight irregular immigrants in Albir, part of the Alfaz del Pi municipality
The patera - a small dinghy - was located close to the landmark Faro (lighthouse) at around 2.30am on Wednesday, September 1, with seven Algerian men and one woman aboard. They are all said to be in good health, though one man required treatment for small burns to his arm.
At around 5am, all of the migrants were taken to the Port of Alicante where members of the Red Cross (Cruz Roja) carried out health checks and PCR tests to detect possible cases of coronavirus.
The National Police will now start the process of repatriating the irregular immigrants to their home country.
This is the first known patera to arrive on the Alicante coast in September after a summer in which several boats have reached the shore at a number of coastal towns, including Benidorm, Javea, Santa Pola and Pilar de Horadada
