ARCHIVED - Man killed and another rescued 20 hours after car plunges into ravine in Alcoy
Alicante firefighters recovered the body of the deceased and his seriously injured 18-year-old friend
A young man, whose age has not been released, has been killed and his 18-year-old friend rescued 20 hours after their car plunged 60 metres into a ravine at the side of the AC-710, 60 metres in Alcoy.
The two men had been missing since Friday afternoon when another friend found the wreckage in dense shrubs and bushes between Benilloba and Gorgo at around 4.30pm on Saturday October 30.
He called for help and Alicante Firefighters Consortium immediately deployed a helicopter and rescue team. Sadly, once on the scene, the fire crew discovered the lifeless body of a young man, and an 18-year-old male with "very serious injuries". He was taken by SAMU ambulance to a nearby hospital. The cause of the crash is not yet known.
In another crash on Saturday, four members of the same family were injured in a three-car collision on the A-3 motorway as it passes through El Rebollar, in Valencia province.
The accident happened at around 2.15pm and three fire crews from Requena and Chiva attended.
According to the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Valencia, nobody was trapped, or needed to be rescued from the smash, and crews quickly cleaned the road to restore traffic flow.
The injured people, reportedly non-Spanish, were treated for undisclosed injuries at the scene.
