ARCHIVED - Low-income Alicante shoppers will receive a 90-euro grocery bonus
Consumers will be able to use the voucher throughout the Valencian Community for the next four months

The Valencian government has approved a ‘shopping basket budget’ that will benefit half a million people with an annual income of less than 21,000 euros. The voucher, worth 90 euros, will be available to low-income families in Alicante and surrounding provinces from April 18 and can be used in any supermarket or food store until July 15.
"This measure goes to the heart of the domestic economy. It can be used during the four months after the concession," Generalitat president Ximo Puig explained on Tuesday March 28.
The aid, which has a budget of 48.4 million euros, can be applied for even if recipients are accessing other social funds such as the minimum vital income, the Valencian inclusion income and the aid of 200 euros launched by the Government of Spain.
To be a beneficiary, you must be a resident of the Valencian Community and your household income must be less than 21,000 euros. Since it is an aid that is granted individually, it can be requested by two people from the same family unit. Pensioners are excluded and the amount does not vary depending on the number of members in the household.
Applications can be made online but help centres will be set up throughout the region for anyone who needs assistance.
This "ethical requirement," president Puig said, has come after a long dialogue between the unions and supermarket chains, and the large food distributors of the Valencian Community and the small business sector will contribute one million euros extra to this bonus.
Also doing its part is popular supermarket Carrefour, which has just launched a catalogue of 200 staple food and household items at new lower prices.
