ARCHIVED - Living the dream: Alicante province amongst top Spanish destinations for overseas home buyers
Ciudad Quesada in the Vega Baja, Alicante, leads the list of coastal towns with the highest number of Idealista property searches from abroad

Boasting spectacular beaches and landscapes, Mediterranean climate and enviable lifestyle, it's easy to see why Alicante province is a long-standing favourite with Brits and other foreigners following the dream of setting up home overseas or investing in a holiday getaway.
In addition to offering incredible scenery and lifestyle opportunities, the province is awash with tourist options, including Benidorm, Calpe and Torrevieja, but how does Alicante fare in the hearts of overseas home buyers in comparison to the rest of Spain?
Real estate portal Idealista has carried out a study on the housing market in southern Europe to find out where foreigners favour establishing their first or second homes, and several municipalities in Alicante province stand out.
Following the lifting of the Covid pandemic restrictions, the interest of foreigners in buying property in Spain has returned with a vengeance, according to the real estate experts.
And it appears many have set their sights on the province to establish their permanent or holiday homes, and surprisingly, inland towns are proving just as popular as coastal locations.
Leading the list of seaside towns with the highest number of property searches from abroad is Ciudad Quesada in the Vega Baja region of the province, 50km from Alicante-Elche Airport. Located in the southern part of the municipality of Rojales, Quesada is 6 km from the Mediterranean Sea and most of the population is foreign, mainly British. Here, house prices average at 2,455 euros/m2.
In second place is Busot (pictured above) in the comarca of Alacantí, 21km from the province capital and just 34km from the airport. The village is set just 5km from the coastal town of El Campello, with a distinct Spanish feel. Properties here are significantly cheaper, and cost on average 1.481 euros/m2.
And in fourth place is El Verger (1,732 euros/m2), an inland municipality located in the Marina Alta region of the province.

A little further down the list, in seventh place, is Formentera del Segura in the Vega Baja (1,127 euros/m2). And in 15th and 20th place respectively are: Algorfa, also in the Vega Baja (2,259 euros/m2) and Moralet in Alicante comarca (1,141).
