ARCHIVED - Important coronavirus indicators on the decline: Valencia Covid update July 29
Infections and hospital admissions are down but deaths are up in Alicante province and the rest of the Valencia region
Covid indicators have fluctuated considerably over recent weeks following a spike at the beginning of the month. But the latest update from the Regional ministry of Health shows a decline in new cases and hospital admissions for the third time in the last 10 days.
However, a further 38 fatalities have been reported since Tuesday July 26, meaning 132 Covid-related deaths have been recorded since July 19.
The ownward tracectory in terms of infections and patients on wards is in line with the national trend which indicates that the seventh wave is beginning to recede.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has confirmed 3,519 new coronavirus cases since the last update on Tuesday July 26 (over a four-day period). The latest figures are down more than 1,000 on the 4,506 reported on Tuesday.
By provinces: 483 in Castellón (187,487 in total), 1,030 in Alicante (519,381 in total) and 2,006 in Valencia (819,764 in total).
Of these new cases, 1,711 are people over 60 years of age (down from 2,255 on Tuesday and 2,275 a week ago): Of the new cases over the three-day period, 262 of Castellón, 548 of Alicante and 901 of Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,006 Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region, down from 1,110 in the last update, 60 of them in the ICU (two less): 153 in the province of Castellón, 7 in the ICU; 311 in the province of Alicante, 23 of them in the ICU; and 542 in the province of Valencia, 30 in ICU.
Fatalities
Thirty-eight deaths have been reported since the last update, all of which occurred within the last seven day.
The deceased are 23 men aged between 69 and 94-years-old and 15 women aged between 54 and 96-years-old. This brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 9,768: 1,152 in the province of Castellón, 3,725 in alicante and 4,891 in Valencia.
