ARCHIVED - Hospitals in Orihuela and Torrevieja offer beds for wounded Ukrainian refugees
More than 2,000 hospital beds will be made available in the Valencia region for Ukrainians wounded in the condemned invasion by Russia
President of the Valencian Government, Ximo Puig, has activated an emergency action plan with measures to turn the region into a "humanitarian corridor" to help address the crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
As part of this plan, a total of 146 beds will be offered between the two hospitals in Orihuela and Torrevieja to care for wounded Ukrainian civilians.
The Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela will provide 58 beds for adult patients and 24 beds for children; in Torrevieja Hospital a total of 51 beds will be provided for adults and 13 for children.
Across the region as a whole, the Ministry of Health will make 2,094 hospital beds available to the Spanish Government to provide medical assistance to injured refugees and will enable a provisional and simplified health card (a SIP card in Spain) for those who need it.

In addition, an extension of the 112 emergency line has been launched exclusively to assist refugees from the crisis-hit country and the estimated 30,000 Ukranians currently estimated to be living in the Valencian region.
Following a meeting on Wednesday March 2 with the Joint Commission for the Care of Refugees and Displaced Persons, Puig announced: "The Department of Cooperation has already mobilised, through Farmamundi, the shipment of medical supplies worth 300,000 euros to the conflict zone.
"There is also an agreement with the Red Cross, which has an endowment of 600,000 euros, 50% of which will be mobilised when the humanitarian organisation deems it appropriate. And, likewise, there is an Emergency Fund of 1.9 million euros which is in reserve to be applied when necessary."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice, Interior and Public Administration, through professional associations of lawyers, is providing free advice to Ukrainians who arrive in the Valencia region to clarify their legal situation.
