ARCHIVED - Benidorm begins collecting medical aid for Ukraine
Four collection points have been set up in the Marina Baixa town, Alicante province
Benidorm Council has set up collection points for vital first aid medical supplies to help Ukrainians in need following Russia's invasion.
Special drop off points have been set up at Palau d'Esports, Casa del Fester and La Torreta and José Llorca Linares social centres, which will be open from 9am and 8pm today (Thursday March 3) and Friday March 4.
"The Ukrainian Consulate in Valencia have told us that they urgently need medical supplies and we are urging individuals and groups in Benidorm who want to collaborate to focus on certain types of products so that their solidarity contribution is as effective as possible," explained Benidorm Mayor, Toni Pérez.
Medical supplies requested include: dressings, plasters, bandages, ointments for burns, thermal blankets, syringes with needles of different volumes, anti-burn hydrogel bandages, immobilisation tapes, sterile material for the treatment of wounds, scissors for cutting clothes and shoes, painkillers and antipyretics for reducing fevers.
"It is a matter of getting the supplies that are most needed to care for the affected civilian population to Ukraine as soon as possible, and we are also coordinating collections in CEIPs and IES educational centres and municipal nursery schools. If these needs change, the public will be informed immediately," added Mr Pérez.
On Friday evening, the Town Hall will arrange for the donated medical supplies to be delivered to the Ukraine Consulate.
Companies and members of the public who wish to make contributions can also call the RAC telephone number 900 701 322, and anybody who would like to make a financial donation can do so through any of the following accounts set up by the Red Cross:
