ARCHIVED - Hospital pressure easing slowly as 4th jabs announced for over 60s: Valencia Covid update September 21
Spain will begin vaccinating with an extra Covid-19 booster jab next Monday

Just as the Spanish government announces they are ready to start doling out additional booster jabs – fourth Covid vaccines – to the general population, starting with the oldest and working down, the health authorities in the Valencian Community have reported a slight dip in hospitalisations due to coronavirus and the number of critically ill patients in need of intensive care.
Coronavirus cases
The Regional Ministry of Health in the Valencian Community has reported a total of 945 new cases confirmed by PCR test or antigen test since last Friday. Of these, 506 were detected in people over 60 years of age.
In terms of new cases by province, there are 225 new cases in Alicante (making 526,705 in total), 130 new cases in Castellón (190,898 in total) and 589 in Valencia (832,225 in total), plus one unassigned case.
Hospitalisations
Hospital pressure is in decline as the situation in hospitals continues to improve. Another 253 people throughout the region have been admitted to hospital with Covid, compared to 277 on Friday. Eighteen of those people have needed to go to the ICU.
In terms of provinces, there are 86 hospitalisation in the province of Alicante, 4 of them in the ICU; 26 in the province of Castellón, 1 in ICU; and 141 in the province of Valencia, 13 in ICU.
Fatalities
There were five further deaths from coronavirus in the whole of the Valencia region in the last seven days. They are two women aged 92 and 94 years and three men aged 83-92 years.
The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic is 10,043: 3,833 in the province of Alicante, 1,194 in the province of Castellón and 5,016 in the province of Valencia.
