ARCHIVED - Free intercity bus travel for under 30s in Alicante province
The bus lines that connect with Alicante-Elche airport will also be free for young people until July 31

Following the huge success of free TRAM travel for under 30s, with more than 34,000 beneficiaries since its implementation at the beginning of the month, the Valencia Government plans to extend the measure to intercity buses.
The 100% discount for young people will be applied to the entire region and the government is expected to have it up and running in about six weeks.
In Alicante province, the free travel will affect around 30 routes that connect different municipalities, and will include the city line to Alicante-Elche airport.
As far as the implementation of the subsidy is concerned, an exact date on which it will come into force is not yet known, although the regional authority is working to "bring it into force as soon as possible by means of a Decree-Law". Provided there are no problems, "this process should be completed by the beginning of April".
What has been specified is the duration of the discount, which will go hand in hand with free travel for under 30s on Alicante TRAM, and will be extended until at least July 31.
"In this way, all means of public transport dependent on the Generalitat will be 100% subsidised for people up to 30 years of age," said the government, adding that some other municipal buses will also be free, thanks to an agreement between the regional government and the local councils through which they fund 50% of the discount.
However, not all local councils have agreed to collaborate, including Alicante city.
While other municipalities such as Elche and Benidorm have accepted the Consell's proposal, the Alicante bipartite continues to reject the option of applying the discount on the lines managed by the city council.
At the moment, Alicante only applies a 50% discount on all the passes thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Transport, which provides 30% of the discount, while the remaining 20% is assumed by the Consistory.
This means users in municipalities that do not have free urban bus services, such as Alicante, will require a special travel card solely for intercity bus travel.
