ARCHIVED - Foreigner falls off cliff into the sea in Torrevieja
The Russian man drifted 20 metres off the coast before managing to swim to rocks in the Vega Baja, Alicante, province, where he was rescued
A Russian man fell off a cliff in Cala la Higuera, Torrevieja, and was dragged 20 metres out to sea before he managed to swim to rocks from where he was eventually rescued.
The alarm was raised by a sea rescue team at around 6.50pm on Tuesday November 16, and members of the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium were quickly sent to the scene.
Crews armed with a fire engine crane lowered a basket stretcher and eventually pulled the victim to the top of the cliff.
Having been in the water for 40 minutes and thrown against rocks following the fall, the man, whose age has not been disclosed, was suffering from hypothermia and required further medical assistance for various grazes and cuts. He is currently in Torrevieja Hospital.
