Expat endangers lives by placing HUGE rocks in the road in Murcia to avenge cat death
The suspect was assisted by four youths, who helped him place the boulders in the road as vengeance for his cat being run over
A 38-year-old Bulgarian national, a resident of Moratalla (Murcia), has been arrested on suspicion of a crime against road safety after he allegedly filled the road where his cat was run over with large stones.
The investigation began last month, when the Guardia Civil “became aware of a traffic accident on the RM-715 road, in the municipality of Moratalla, due to the collision of a vehicle with a large stone found in the middle of the road,” according to a statement from the Spanish police.
Locals in the area reported that on other days they had observed “stones placed on the road in a seemingly intentional manner”.
The investigation revealed that the rocks were being placed in the middle of the roadway in the early hours of the morning, when there weren’t many cars around.
They surveilled the area secretly and managed to catch the suspect while he was returning from placing one of the massive rocks in the road.
The Bulgarian man, 38, was accompanied by four minors and, when confronted by officers, claimed that “everything was due to the running over of his cat, which had occurred on that stretch of road”.
He was promptly arrested for a crime against road safety, for placing unforeseeable obstacles on the road, and for damage caused to the car that collided with one of these stones.
“The identity of the four young people who accompanied the detainee was brought to the attention of the Prosecutor of Minors of Murcia, in case they are found to have collaborated or participated in the crimes.”
The adult suspect, meanwhile, has been released pending trial.
