ARCHIVED - Elderly expat identified as motorist who drove along AP7 Alicante in the wrong direction
The 75-year-old German woman travelled up to 35km in the wrong carriageway through the Marina Baixa area of Alicante province
A 75-year-old German woman from the Valenican town Oliva is under investigation by the Guardia Civil's traffic unit after being identified as the alleged reckless driver who travelled almost 35km along the AP7 Alicante in the wrong direction.
Footage of the hair-raising scene was filmed by a motorist in the opposite lane of the motorway shortly before 1.30pm on Sunday January 9, and the clip was shared on Twitter.

Police received a number of calls reporting the bizarre scenes recorded at kilometre 604 of the AP7 near Denia. But 15 minutes later, there were further calls reporting an accident at kilometre 639 in Altea after a motorist swerved to avoid the oncoming vehicle.
The driver left the motorway before police could intercept the car.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but the Guardia Civil's Investigation and Analysis Group (GIAT) took over the case to determine whether the incident was a deliberate stunt or an accidental driver's error, and to locate the person behind the wheel.
The elderly driver, who was travelling with another woman, was located on Wednesday January 12. Reckless driving carries a prison sentence of between six months and two years, and disqualification for up to six years.
The Provincial Traffic Headquarters is likely to carry out an "extraordinary medical examination of aptitude of the driver" before any sentencing.
