ARCHIVED - Dodgy traders arrested at Benidorm street market for selling thousands of rip-off goods
More than 2,400 counterfeit items were confiscated by police in the Costa Blanca coastal resort

The National Police have arrested 11 traders at Benidorm street market in Rincón de Loix after 2,409 counterfeit items posing as high-end brand products were seized.
According to police sources, the market price of 100 watches alone, had they been originals, would exceed 800,000 euros.
An investigation was launched after the National Police in Benidorm received a complaint from the representative of a number of prestigious brands who warned counterfeit products were being sold every Wednesday and Sunday on various stalls at the market.
After at least half a dozen inspections were carried out and the seized goods were proven to indeed be counterfeit, 11 people were arrested and charged with crimes against intellectual and industrial property.
