ARCHIVED - Curfew is abolished in Valencian Community: updated restrictions September 7
Nightlife venues will once again be allowed to open but dancing and sitting at the bar is still prohibited in all three provinces, including Alicante
The much-anticipated relaxation of restrictions in the Valencian Community was announced by the regional president, Ximo Puig, who opened his press conference by stating ‘goodbye to curfew.’ From Tuesday September 7, the night-time curfew which has been in place in 68 municipalities, 27 of which are in the province of Alicante, will be abolished.
The second big change is that nightlife venues will be allowed to reopen after months of restrictions. The indoor capacity will be limited to 50% and dancing is still not permitted, but these establishments can now stay open until 03:00, with last orders at 02:30.
Bars, restaurants and cafes maintain the 00:30 closing time, but from Tuesday the number of people permitted at a table indoors increases from six to eight; outdoor dining remains the same at 10 per table, but people can now order and collect drinks from the bar. Sitting at the bar, however, is still not allowed.
Regarding the celebration of large events, the indoor capacity of 50%, up to a maximum of 1,500 people, remains in place. If the space can be divided into different sections, a maximum of two sections of up to a thousand people each will be allowed. For outdoor venues, the capacity has been increased to 75%, up to 3,000 people. Likewise, outdoor establishments can be divided up into five sectors with a thousand people in each.
At football and basketball games, the capacity has been extended to 60%, up to a maximum of 20,000 people in outdoor stadiums while indoors the limit is 40%, up to 4,000 people.
These six new measures will remain in place until September 27, at which time the Covid data will be analysed and, if the numbers in the Valencian Community remain under control, a second de-escalation phase will be considered whereby opening hours and capacity will be looked at.
If all goes to plan, the reduction in restrictions should culminate on October 9 to coincide with the Community of Valencia Day.
Although there are still four localities in the ‘extreme risk’ category, overall Valencia’s cumulative incidence rate has fallen to just 155 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, establishing it as the third-lowest region in Spain after the Canary Islands and Asturias. The positive development of the coronavirus pandemic, Puig said, is the reason the restrictions are being relaxed and he is confident that the Valencian Community will celebrate ‘a new normal’ on October 9.
