ARCHIVED - Covid outbreaks in Denia blamed on anti-vaxxers
There have been three outbreaks in the Marina Alta area of Alicante province in the last two weeks
“Unsupportive people” who refuse to be vaccinated are being blamed for a slight rebound in Covid cases in the Marina Alta with Denia Health Department warning a situation of zero infections is “almost impossible” without full immunisation.
There are currently five coronavirus patients admitted to Denia Hospital, three of whom have been in intensive care for 10 days.
And during a weekly meeting of representatives from municipalities in the area on Friday September 24, the health department revealed it has detected a certain “worsening” of the health situation in the Marina Alta, with the appearance of “two or three outbreaks” caused by “unsupportive people” who have not been vaccinated. It’s not clear how many people are affected.
However, the situation is “not considered worrying”, added the department, as the Valencia region’s 14-day cumulative rate continues to fall to below 50 cases per 100,000 people, and the overall number of outbreaks, despite a return to school, is “minimal” and “sporadic”.
“The problem is that at these low levels of incidence, when an outbreak occurs, the statistics shoot up. In addition, to reach the figure of zero infections in a territory like the Marina Alta is impossible,” said Denia health authority.
To try to encourage the remaining unvaccinated members of the public to have their jab, walk-in sessions are being held at Denia Hospital all day today, Monday September 27 and tomorrow.
Earlier today, the Valencian Government announced new relaxed anti-Covid measures which will affect the whole region, including Alicante province, and come into force on Tuesday September 28.
