Covid and flu vaccination campaign set to begin in the Valencian Community next month
Health centres in Valencia will begin offering the combined jab to vulnerable groups on October 16
The regional health minister, Marciano Gómez, has announced that the 2023 combined Covid and flu vaccination campaign will begin with jabs for vulnerable patients in the Valencian Community the week of October 16 to 23.
Coronavirus infections have rebounded worryingly throughout Spain and the rest of Europe over the summer but Mr Gómez echoed the opinions of the World Health Organisation that the situation remains under control, while influenza cases have dropped.
"Covid is a viral pathology that has come to stay, what happens is that we had the pandemic and it seems that it is the only thing that matters, but we will also have spikes in flu, although it is true that this last week the rates have stabilised," he said.
"We have already done our homework and we are going to start vaccinating against Covid and flu in the week of October 16 to 23 and, as it should be from a health and epidemiological point of view, with vulnerable, immunocompromised and high risk," he added.
The Interterritorial Council is due to meet on Tuesday September 12 to fine tune the vaccination plan, but Mr Gómez assured that residents of the Valencian Community “will have the best vaccine that is currently on the market.”
