Costa Blanca tourists robbed at knifepoint
The Elche robber threatened the Dutch holidaymakers with a large kitchen knife
National Police from the Costa Blanca have arrested a 41-year-old man accused of robbery with violence and intimidation after he allegedly threatened a group of Dutch tourists with a large kitchen knife and demanded money.
The police operation began when the tourists, who were strolling through the streets of Elche, contacted the authorities through the emergency number 112 after being threatened by a man wielding what they later described as a large kitchen knife.
National Police agents assigned to the Elche Citizen Security brigade, as well as Local Police agents, rapidly responded to the scene upon receiving the alert.
Upon arriving at the scene, the officers discovered that the suspect had already fled, but the holidaymakers provided a detailed description of the man's appearance, clothing and the location of the discarded knife, which was retrieved from a nearby rubbish bin.
Shortly afterwards, National Police agents found the suspect on a nearby street and took him into custody. During questioning, the man claimed that he had only requested money and did not intend to use the knife.
Despite his statements, the officers arrested the man for the alleged crime of robbery with violence and intimidation. The detainee, a Spanish national, was subsequently placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court on guard duty in Elche.
