ARCHIVED - Cases and admissions down following first weekend of new normal: Valencia Covid update October 11
25 fewer hospital admissions and 19 fewer ICU beds occupied since Friday October 8 as positive trajectory continues in Alicante and the rest of the region
A continued slide in the number of new Covid infections and hospital admissions has seen the Valencia region's 14-day cumulative incidence rate fall from 37.04 cases per 100,000 people on Friday October 8 to 34.78.
This means Valencia is now the autonomous region with the sixth lowest incidence, behind Asturias, Galicia, Castilla y León, Andalucia and La Rioja, below the national average of 46.08 cases.
According to the regional government, the first weekend of "new normality", following the lifting of the "maximum restrictions possible", passed without major incident, despite an "influx of people to nightlife venues".
And whilst it's still early to gauge the impact of the move, data released by the Ministry of Health today confirms a continued downward trend.
A breakdown of the latest health data shows:
New cases
A further 290 new cases have been reported over the weekend in the Valencia region, down from 342 on Monday October 4, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 511,381. By province: 80 in Castellón (53,315 in total); 112 in Alicante (187,612) and 98 in Valencia, a province to which one case has been reassigned (270,453). There is still one unassigned case.
Recoveries
390 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 513,224 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 53,715 in Castellón; 187,634 in Alicante; and 271,819 in Valencia.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 149 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, down from 173 last Monday, 35 of whom are being treated in ICUs: 24 in the province of Castellón, two in ICU; 70 in the province of Alicante, 22 in ICU; and 55 in the province of Valencia, 11 of them in ICU.
Fatalities
One death has been reported since the last update, meaning the total now stands at 7,809 fatalities since the start of the pandemic: 847 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 2,993 in Alicante; and 3,969 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
There has been no update in relation to vaccinations, but on Friday October 8, a total of 4,059,824 people had received one dose of vaccine, and 4,010,353 people were fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 1,799 active cases in the community, which represents 0.34% of the total positives.
