ARCHIVED - Cabo de Palos feels earthquake measuring nearly 3 on the Richter scale off the Torrevieja coast
The earthquake took place out at sea early this Thursday morning

An earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale shook the Cabo de Palos area early on Thursday morning, January 19. The seismograph that the National Geographic Institute (IGN) installed in the area registered the tremor at 5.38am.
The earthquake had its origin on the surface, in the sea, at a point located off the coast of Torrevieja. It should be noted that the Region of Murcia, the province of Alicante and the entire Spanish Levante, are located in an area of friction between the Eurasian and Arabian plates, which makes this area one of high seismic activity.
The IGN reported no damage to structures or houses.
