British bodybuilder arrested for attempted murder at Alicante Airport
The martial arts expert is accused of almost killing two US soldiers outside a restaurant last month
A 32-year-old British bodybuilder was arrested at Alicante Airport on Sunday July 28. Described by police as a “martial arts expert”, the man was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant for the attempted murder of two US soldiers who he attacked outside a restaurant last month.
The Briton was on the run for 20 days when officers from the National Police spotted him entering the Costa Blanca airport. He is currently being held in Madrid awaiting extradition to the UK where he faces 15 years behind bars if convicted of attempted homicide.
According to official reports, the bodybuilder launched a “surprise and unprovoked attack” on the two victims on June 2, who were knocked out cold by the British man’s punches. But even while the soldiers were unconscious on the ground, he continued to rain kicks on the two men.
A spokesperson for Spain’s National Police in Alicante continued: “He managed to knock out the two soldiers with barely any effort given his extraordinary physical condition.
“He also displayed a high level of violence.”
Incredibly, two friends of the British man stood nearby watching the brutal assault without intervening. The trio fled the scene when several bystanders called the police.
“The two soldiers were seriously injured and at one point their lives were deemed to be at risk,” the police added.
Investigators have no idea what caused this violent, seemingly unprovoked attack.
The condition of the soldiers is currently unknown.
