British pensioner seriously injured in Alicante cliff fall
The 80-year-old was rescued after plunging 30 feet from a cliff wall near the town of Moraira, Alicante
An 80-year-old British climber had to be airlifted to the hospital after falling more than 30 feet from a cliff edge in Spain. The incident occurred near the town of Moraira, in the province of Alicante, when the man sustained multiple injuries, including serious head trauma.
Emergency services were alerted just before 2 pm on Sunday in the nearby village of Murla, about a 30-minute drive inland from Moraira. First responders, firefighters, and an air ambulance team were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Rescue workers navigated the difficult terrain to reach the injured pensioner, securing him for transport via air ambulance to Alicante's Doctor Balmis Hospital. His current status remains unknown, but he was reported to be in a stable condition prior to being flown to the medical facility.
It is unclear whether the climber was accompanied by others at the time of the fall. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the accident.
A spokesperson for the Alicante fire brigade offered more details: “Our rescue team has assisted in the rescue of an 80-year-old British climber in Murla.
“He suffered multiple injuries following a 32ft fall.
“He was taken to a fire station in Denia where an ambulance was waiting to take him to hospital.”
