Bottlenose dolphins filmed frolicking along the Orihuela Costa
Several dolphins stopped for a bit of a play in the waters just off Guardamar del Segura
Orihuela Costa beachgoers were treated to a heart-warming sight over the weekend when a group of playful bottlenose dolphins joined the party in honour of Spain Day on Saturday October 12.
The frolicking mammals were snapped by keen-eyed photographer Juan Carlos García just off the shores of Guardamar del Segura, a well known haven for several species of dolphin.

Incredibly, this isn’t the first time the local nature enthusiast was in the right place at the right time. In May this year, he captured some incredible footage of a small group of young dolphins jumping through the waves in Torrevieja.
And back in February, another lucky gang of sailors spotted a pair of bottlenose dolphins close to the port. The dolphins, identified as Tursiops truncatus, were seen jumping and splashing in the water, much to the delight of onlookers who were sailing around the port and strolling along the coast.
The presence of dolphins in the Vega Baja is not an unusual phenomenon, but it is not something that is seen every day either. These marine mammals usually frequent deeper waters, but occasionally they come close to the coast, offering a natural spectacle.
The dolphins' acrobatic jumps are not only a display of their playful behaviour but also a vital part of their social interactions and hunting methods.
Marine life experts explain that the appearance of these animals near the coasts can be influenced by several factors, including the search for food and sea currents. The Orihuela Costa, known for its relatively clean waters and abundance of fish, provides an ideal habitat for these dolphins.
